U.S. Army Corps of Engineers begins Former Erie Army Depot Ordnance Removal Project PDF Print E-mail

This week, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers began their cleanup of unexploded ordnance that has washed up on the beach area near the Former Erie Army Depot, from the former impact area in Lake Erie. The project aims to reduce the risk to the public and environment.
Using hand held ordnance detection devices to search the area, Unexploded Ordnance experts will excavate the area by hand if metal is detected to fully identify, remove and destroy any partially exposed munitions and explosives. Any unexploded ordnance found will be destroyed by detonation in place or in designated areas. Any detonations will take place on Thursday afternoons.

Ohio EPA Awards $25,355 Environmental Education Grant to Ottawa County Organization PDF Print E-mail

The Oak Harbor-based Black Swamp Bird Observatory has been awarded a $25,355 Ohio EPA Environmental Education grant to provide field trips for students in 12 counties across northern and central Ohio. The Observatory's grant is one of nine awarded statewide, altogether totaling $350,000.

The Ottawa County Board of Elections will meet Friday, May 16 at 1:30 p.m. for a board meeting. This is the board's normal monthly business meeting. The meeting will be held in the conference room at the Board of Elections located at 8444 W. State Rt. 163, Oak Harbor in the Veterans Memorial Building.

ImageThis Saturday and Sunday, American Cancer Society's Relay for Life will be held at the Port Clinton High School beginning at 10 a.m. on Saturday and running through the night ending early Sunday morning.
"This is the signature event for raising money in our area," explained Susan Smith, co-chairman of the Survivors Brunch, one of the many activities to be held during the day.
