PCHS announces new volleyball coach

Port Clinton High School has a new Volleyball Coach, Kelly Ward.  Even though she is new to the Redskin Volleyball program, she has a great deal of experience as a volleyball coach and player.  She graduated from Sandusky High School with three varsity letters in volleyball and continued being involved in area programs as a coach.  Ward was a coach with the North Shore Club Volleyball, and has been both a Junior High and Junior Varsity Volleyball Coach at Sandusky Schools for a number of years.

Rick Dominick, Port Clinton High School Athletic Director stated, “We are very fortunate to find someone of Coach Ward's caliber to lead our Volleyball Program.  She brings to Port Clinton a good deal of experience coaching and Kelly is a very energetic person.  In our conversation her passion for Volleyball became very evident and everyone that knew her from Sandusky spoke very highly of her in regards to her knowledge of the game, work ethic, and ability to relate to her players.”

Kelly lives in Sandusky with her husband, Andy, the chef at Edgewood Manor in Port Clinton, and their three children.  She and her husband also have a catering business, Ward Catering.  Coach Ward stated, “I am excited to come and coach at Port Clinton.  I love the area and look forward to this new opportunity to build a strong program.”

Thank you, Volleyball Challenge

The 4th Annual Volleyball Challenge held on April 29th was a huge success! Proceeds from the event benefitted the United Way of Ottawa County. The four main agencies participating in the event were the Ottawa County Board of Developmental Disabilities (OCBDD), OCTA, RVI and Ottawa Residential Services (ORSI). The team of RVI and ORSI won the challenge for the third straight year in a row. The team playing against them was from OCBDD and OCTA.

Everyone had a roaring good time as the Honorable Judge Kathleen Giesler and Commissioner Jim Sass entertained the crowd as Masters of Ceremony. Mr. Sass even donned a very unique hat complete with horns and fur. Donna Drusbacky put her amazing skills to use as the referee for the evening. Brenda Fastinger operated the scoreboard while Amy Cantu, Bri Combs and Kim Strong-Todd managed the concessions, bake sale, silent auction and 50/50 sales.
