Friday is last chance for Lenten fish fries

John SchaffnerThis Friday night will be the last of the Lenten fish fries hosted by the Port Clinton Knights of Columbus at the Denny Bergeman Memorial K. of C. Hall at 109 E. Perry St. They serve from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Pollack dinners are $10, while Lake Erie Perch or shrimp dinners are $13.50. Also, St. Boniface Church in Oak Harbor will hold its all-you-can-eat Lenten Fish Fry this Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. Cost is $8 for adults, $5 for kids ages 6-12 while kids 5 and under eat for FREE!

OSU alumni auction Friday at Nick’s Roadhouse

John SchaffnerThe Ohio State University Alumni Club of Ottawa County is holding their 19th Annual Scholarship Auction at Nick’s Roadhouse this Friday, March 23. Doors will open at 6 p.m. To highlight the event, the OSU Marching Band will provide a pep band to raise the spirits of the Buckeye faithful! Since 1991, this event has raised over $100,000 in scholarships to Ottawa County students attending THE Ohio State University. Advance tickets may be ordered by contacting Mike Libben at 419-898-8400 or Mike Snider at 419-734-0515. There will also be tickets available at the door. Everybody is invited to attend, even Michigan fans!!! Donation at the door is $10 per person.

Congratulations (again) to local athletes!

John SchaffnerCongratulations to several local sports teams and athletes … again! First, Oak Harbor’s Luke Cramer and Alex Bergman both finished fourth in their respective weight classes at the state wrestling tournament in Columbus last weekend. Alex was in what was regarded as the toughest weight class at the tournament! Luke will be back next year to try again. Also, the Port Clinton boys’ bowling team finished 11th at the state tournament last weekend in Columbus.

Congrats, good luck to area athletes

John SchaffnerCongratulations and good luck go out to several local sports teams and athletes. First, Luke Cramer, Alex Bergman and Jared Chambers are on their way to the state wrestling tournament this weekend. Also, MacKenzie Stewart finished her stellar swimming career at Port Clinton High School taking third place in the 100 breaststroke and fifth in the 200 IM at the state swimming meet in Canton last weekend. Also, Cheyenne Meek, who really came on strong at the end of the season, took third in the 50 freestyle at state, and just missed out on a podium spot in the 100 freestyle. She’ll be back for more next year.
