Catawba Island Holiday Bureau taking applications and donations

Catawba residents are reminded that the deadline for applications to the Catawba Island Holiday Bureau for assistance during the holiday season is Dec. 1. Assistance includes food, paper goods, cleaning supplies and personal items. Also included are gifts for children age 18 and under, provided by the Salvation Army. 

Applications are available at The Vineyard of Catawba, Resurrection Lutheran Church on NE Catawba Road and the Catawba Township Administration Building on Cemetery Road. Applications and monetary donations can be sent to PO Box 72, Port Clinton, OH 43452. Monetary donations can be sent to Treasurer, PO Box 72, Port Clinton. In 2012, 26 families with a total of 60 individuals received assistance.

Catawba Island Brewing Company hosts Business After Hours

Seven different brews were available at CIBC on Thursday.

On Thursday evening Port Clinton Chamber of Commerce Business After Hours was hosted by the new Catawba Island Brewing Company. Dozens of Chamber members sampled the seven beers that are currently available at the area’s first microbrewery at 2330 East Harbor Road. MSU and NBA star Greg Kelser and designer Arthur Hills come to CIC June 17th

The Michigan State University Golf Jamboree will be held at Catawba Island Club, Port Clinton, on June 17. The purpose of the event to raise money for student scholarships and also to assist Mr. Greg Kelser with his youth inner-city summer basketball camp. Kelser was a member of the 1979 MSU NCAA Championship  Basketball team and played with Magic Johnson during that season as a forward. Greg was later drafted in the first round of the NBA by the Detroit Pistons, and played six seasons in the NBA. He will be here doing a meet and greet and promoting his new book, “Greg Kelser’s Tales from Michigan State Basketball”.
