CIVFD raises money for Honor Flight

On Saturday, April 5, the Catawba Island Volunteer Firefighters held a pancake breakfast to raise money for the Honor Flight of Northwest Ohio program. Firefights, civilians and Boy Scout Troop 360 volunteered their services to make this event happen.

Not only were there donations of time, but there were donations of product. Catawba Island Club donated eggs, bacon and French toast; Crosswinds Restaurant donated juice; Gerner Wolf Walker Family Funeral Home donated the paper products; Dave and Jodi Regal donated desserts and Amy Drummer donated time to do the advertising for the event.

“People just came out through the woodwork to help us with this,” said organizer and Catawba Island Volunteer Firefighter Dan Barlow. “In comparison, it’s a small amount of work we can do for those who did so much for us during the war.”

Honor Flight is a non-profit organization that helps transport veterans to Washington, D.C. to visit and reflect at the veterans’ memorials. Top priority is given to senior veterans along with those suffering from terminal illness. Without the program, some of the veterans may not get to visit the memorials that were created for their sacrifice and service.

This year, 240 people attended the breakfast and the CIVFD raised $3620 to donate to Honor Flight.

Bolte Real Estate announces Team Dunlap

Bolte Real Estate is proud to announce the teaming of two of its professionally trained real estate agents, Nancy J. Dunlap and Jeanne Sutton. Both agents bring extensive knowledge from their diverse background in the real estate industry.

Nancy is a versatile real estate agent and broker who previously owned her own real estate company on Catawba for many years. During that time she was among the real estate leaders in Ottawa County for sales and listing volume and was the recipient of many Ohio Association of Realtors awards. As a member of the Firelands Board of Realtors, she was nominated to serve as President of the Board, and has been a team leader on numerous committees representing the members of the Board. Through her hard work and dedication she has achieved the real estate designations of Certified Business Specialist, Certified Residential Specialist and Graduate Realtor Institute. She has been a member of the Bolte family of realtors since 1998 and continues to work for her clients in finding the right fit for buyers and the best price for sellers.

Jeanne Sutton is a licensed real estate agent who sold real estate in the Port Clinton, Catawba and Marblehead areas for a number of years before joining Martin Appraisal Service in Toledo as a licensed/certified Residential Appraiser. She appraised homes in Northwest Ohio, primarily in Ottawa and Sandusky Counties, eventually forming her own appraisal company, Sutton Appraisal Service. After 15 years as an appraiser, she left appraisal and became active in real estate again as both a listing and selling agent. In addition to her real estate activites, Sutton was also a member of the Adjunct Faculty at Hondros College, teaching real estate pre-licensing and continuing education classes for a number of years. She is also a member of the Firelands Board of Realtors and the Ohio Association of Realtors. Jeanne believes she brings the Dunlap Team the benefit of her appraisal experience and market knowledge.
