Miller Ferry has kept on the keen eye on the Lake Erie ice conditions hoping for this year’s harsh winter to loosen its grasp on the Great Lake. It seems, finally, the wait is over. Tentatively the first boat run will be Thursday, April 2, at 2 p.m.
Miller Ferry will tentatively begin service to Put-in-Bay and Middle Bass Island despite being pushed back a little later into the spring season than originally planned. Although service to the Lake Erie Islands resumes a bit later this season, the Miller Ferry and island business alike are poised for a very busy season.
“Looking at weather and ice coverage reports is a daily occurrence at this point,” states Miller Ferry owner Julene Market. “Last year’s cold winter makes this one that much easier for us because we were ready. That being said, we are thrilled to get the season started.”
While increased ice thickness was great for fisherman in 2015, residents all across the Lake Erie Shores & Islands can all agree - Miller Ferry’s opening day is a welcome sign of spring.
